I loved these for the world cup, and I’ve seen you doing them this season but I haven’t been watching the games until you did this Dortmund/Leverkusen one, I can try to add a blurb about which one I’m doing next if that’s helpful, but it’s going to be a bit random. Sometimes I pick the game I’m going to do the day off because I get some extra time to work on it.

In that vein: after the game, Herrlich criticized one player’s defensive performance in particular, especially in the context of the 2:3. He was avoiding to name the player, but I took it to mean he talked about Wendell. Looking at it now, it seems like Wendell was really struggling at times to cover both the right winger and Hakimi pushing forward and missing support from Brandt and later Paulinho. During the 2:3 you can see Wendell out of position due to being dragged inside the box by a Bruun Larsen run. But you can also see Paulinho pushing forward trying to get to Reus without covering Hakimi again afterward, which gives Hakimi all the time in the world to cross. Herrlich (presumably) singling out Wendell makes me wonder whether he overlooks the lacking defensive contribution of his offensive talent.
